Top 10 Rides at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Welcome to the first list on this site! Today I’ll be counting down the top 10 rides at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA, as it is the park I know the most about because it used to be my home park. I’ve also ridden every ride that could contend to be on this list. This list is also written before the opening of Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth. Without further ado, here’s the list!

Starting off the list, we have Boomerang Coast to Coaster, which is a standard Vekoma boomerang. Nothing to special, but the backwards part has good forces and this coaster almost never gets a long line.

Next up is Pacific Rim 5-D, the park’s 5D? 4D theater. It’s just OK for a 4D theater. The screen is huge, the seats are really nice and move a lot, and the mist effects are cool, However this ride has tons of problems including a boring ride film, pretty bad looking 3D, a preshow longer than the actual ride, and little theming. Besides that, it’s still worth a spin when visiting the park.

Although this starflyer is only 150 feet tall (the park’s height limit), it’s still a very fun ride, although cold at the top. You get some very cool views of the coasters (especially Joker, that ride looks awesome from above) and the lake surrounding the back of the park. Unfortunately this ride can generate some long lines so I don’t ride it as much as I’d like to.

Coming in at #7 we have the park’s first frisbee, and it’s one of the first-gen HUSS models. Pretty fun, but it has horrible seats, is a little shaky, and takes a really long time to slow down. If you are on the top of one of the swings you get amazing airtime though.

This ride would probably rank a lot higher if 1. the seats didn’t squeeze the life out of you and 2. the operations were better (sometimes you’ll see 10 minute dispatches on this ride). However, you get some awesome hangtime and the sensations on this ride are very cool. Also the shark ride arms are awesome.

White Water Safari is the park’s rapids ride, and this is a really excellent rapids. There’s tons of wetness and waves, a waterfall which will absolutely soak you  (if it’s on), and you actually get going pretty fast on this ride. On a lot of rapids you just kinda drift down and get little splashes, but not on this one! And it even has a tunnel! Only downside is the usual hour or longer line.

This might come as a surprise, but #4 is Superman Ultimate Flight, a Premier Rides Sky Rocket II. While it’s a super fun ride (and my favorite Sky Rocket II), it has gotten a little rough and going up the first tower into the inline twist there is a kinda painful jolt. This ride also gets extremely long lines, and the ride duration is about 50 seconds, so it’s almost never worth the wair. However the inline twist has awesome hangtime, the drop into the non-inverting loop is incredible, and the speed of the third launch is great. Overall fun ride but not as good as the next 3 on this list.

Coming in at #3 is V2: Vertical Velocity, an Intamin impulse coaster. This one is unique because one spike goes up at a 45 degree angle and hits a barrel roll (instead of a twisted 90 degree tower). But this ride has some awesome sideways hangtime, really forceful launches, is very smooth, and has epic airtime on the vertical spike.

Medusa is an awesome B&M floorless coaster. The drop is amazing, it’s very long, all the inversions are very fun (especially the first 3), and the force and relentless nature of the ride really make it stand out. It’s just a super fun and enjoyable coaster that you’ll want to ride again and again.

At #1, the best ride at Discovery Kingdom, is Joker, the park’s newest coaster. This is an RMC conversion of Roar (the park’s old GCI) and it is amazing. The entire ride is packed with airtime, the last zero-g roll is one of the best inversions ever, and the drop is very steep and very awesome. You know you’re in for a fun ride when you get air in the pre-lift!
